Plea over dog walks on field
An organisation that runs a community hall has appealed to dog owners not to walk their pets on its field.
The field by the Shefford Town Memorial Hall has been a no-go area for dogs since the hall was built more than 50 years ago.
But owners continue to walk their dogs on the field by the Hitch Road hall, despite the signs reminding them of the by-law.
Linda Ford, secretary of the Shefford Town Memorial Association (STMA) that runs the hall, said: “We have had signs up on the building itself for many years and we have recently put up another large one close to the entrance with Elm Road.
“But some owners continue to ignore the rules and we see dog mess on the field all the time.”
Dog wardens from Central Beds Council have helped the STMA and have warded off some dog owners from field.
Linda added: “The dog warden has spent some time here and has told dog walkers that they are not allowed to use the field. We really appreciate her help – even if she has taken some abuse!”
The field is used frequently for different sports.
STMA chairman Edith Happs said: “The Shefford Saints adult and junior teams play on the field at weekends, and during the summer Shefford Cricket Club use it for games as well.
“It is also popular with families and it is not right that people should have to clear up the dog mess before they can use the field.”
