Family-run catering business to hold open day
A chef will be welcoming people into his kitchen to celebrate the launch of his business at its new Biggleswade premises.
Adrian Stoddart recently moved the family-run Mapletree Catering to Saffron Road in Biggleswade and is hoping to hold an open day on Saturday, March 15 to mark the occassion.
The business started out with Adrian, 37, cooking from home and has expanded to offer cookery classes and catering.
But as it expanded he needed to find a larger kitchen, settling on the former office.
He said: "A lot of people think cooking is a lot of faffing about and expensive but to be honest if you've got the recipe and ingredients it shows how cheap it really is.
"The excuse that you can't get it cheaper than the supermarkets really doesn't stand up any more.
"It's all family run, we've all pitched in and done it."
Adrian has been involved in the culinary trade since the age of just 16, and has worked with famous chef Gary Rhodes, cooked at top hotels including the Hilton and was part of Keith Mitchell's team of three that took home a gold medal at the culinary olympics.
And Mapletree Catering has already caused a stir, being nominated for uktv's local food hero last year.
Adrian is hoping local suppliers will attend the open day, as much of the business' ethos involves supporting local producers.
He added: "With the press filled with horror stories about the food we eat, it's hoped that this event will bring a little of the fun and enjoyment back to food that seems to be sadly missing at the moment."
A charity auction will also take place at the event, and all profits will go towards the company's chosen charity for the year - Bedfordshire Air Ambulance.
