MBCH-28-02-13- Protestors at Gypsy & Traveller site meeting Priory House. Central Bedfordshire Council Offices, Chicksands.

Crowds of placard waving protesters gathered outside the Central Beds Council headquarters on Thursday morning.

The protest was held ahead of the council’s sustainable communities overview and scrutiny committee, where the council’s Gypsy and Traveller local plan was to be discussed.

At the meeting the council is due to shortlist the prospective sites for new Gypsy and Traveller pitches, with a public consultation on the plan set to follow.

The plan would come into effect in the summer of 2014.

Representavies from local communities had finished speaking by around 1pm, with council discussion set to begin at 2pm. A full report on the meeting will follow.
