Reducing the impact of wintry weather

editorial image

Wintry weather is having an inevitable impact on our lives but Central Beds Council is trying to reduce its effect.

Gritters were out up to four times a day over the weekend, spreading salt and ploughing snow to keep key routes open.

There are also more than 200 salt bins in the county. You can put the salt on roads and footpaths but not on your private property. Search for salt bins on the council’s website - listed below - to find out where they are.

Bin collections have been suspended and the crews have been diverted to clear snow. If your rubbish has not been collected today then leave it out and it will be taken as soon as possible.

Biggleswade tidy tip is open as usual. All of the libraries are open and the council’s adult community learning courses are running as planned, although some courses in Bedford Borough have been affected.

Social work teams are standing by to deal with any problems, making emergency visits as required. Central Beds Council’s four days centres for older people and people with learning disabilities are open for those who can get there. Anyone who cannot will receive the care they need at home, as well as a warm meal.

Leader of Central Bedfordshire Council, Councillor James Jamieson, said: “While snow can be great fun, we know how much weather like this can impact the lives of all our residents.

“At Central Bedfordshire Council we are working as hard as we can to ensure that roads are clear, vulnerable people are getting the support they need and residents are kept up to date.”

The council will post updates on Facebook at www.facebook.com/letstalkcentral and on Twitter at www.twitter.com/letstalkcental and on the website at www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk
