Repair work is left on the road to nowhere

A road has been left unfinished as Central Beds and Anglian Water cannot agree on whose responsibility it is.

Alex Hough, who lives in London Road, Biggleswade has warned drivers to take extra care when approaching the road’s junction with The Baulk.

He said: “There is a patch where the road has been dug up but clearly not resurfaced.

“I drove over it and it ruined one of my tyres. Whoever was doing the roadworks should make the road surface suitable for driving on again.”

Councillor Budge Wells, deputy executive member for sustainablecommunities, services at Central Beds Council said: “The delay to this particular bit of resurfacing is because of a leaking water hydrant nearby.

“Anglian Water hold responsibility for both fixing the hydrant – which they have now done – and resurfacing that section of road because it was damaged by the water.

Our highways contractor made contact to offer assistance in January but they have not heard back. “

John Clare from Anglian Water said: “We do not believe the leak caused damage to the road. The surface had already been removed as planned by highways contractors.

“We do not know why the highways contractors could not have finished their work and we do not believe we are responsible for replacing a road surface that has been removed by someone else.”

Each organisation said it would be contacting the other to ensure that the section of road is resurfaced again.
