Matt Walker won the prize after a friend entered him into a national ‘Get Your Motor Running’ competition, which has been rewarding deserving car owners with free parts.

Matt said: “The Discovery has over 200,000 miles on the clock, but as a response vehicle it’s invaluable.”

As a volunteer blue light responder and 4x4 national responder, Mr Walker’s 20-year-old Discovery attends vehicle breakdowns and major incidents caused by extreme weather conditions.

He added: “It has been off the road for a while, but with the parts I’ve won from GSF it can take its MOT and respond to emergencies again.

“I can also use it to teach my kids how to drive!”

Mr Walker’s prize was part of a £2,000 GSF Car Parts giveaway held in association with its Bedford branch.

James Abbott, from Haynes, won £1,000 in parts and accessories for his much-loved Vauxhall Corsa B GSI. After stripping the car back, the Corsa has been off the road for the past two years as the spiralling cost of the restoration forced James to put it on hold.

Mr Abbott said: “With this win I can replace a lot of the parts and make this a really eye-catching car to take to Vauxhall shows across the country.”

Branch manager at GSF Car Parts Bedford, Natalie Smith, said: “We’re really thrilled that we’ve been given the opportunity to help our local customers out. The Bedford team would like to congratulate everyone who won in this exciting competition.”
