Ribbon dance for Chinese New Year
Youngsters at a lower school celebrated Chinese New Year in style.
The pupils at St Andrew’s Lower School in Biggleswade were a little in advance of the actual celebrations, which will take place on Sunday, February 10.
The children in Reception and Key Stage 1 had a wonderful time watching a Chinese ribbon dance performer. They also had the chance to dance with the ribbons themselves during the dance workshops.
When they returned to their classrooms the children tantalised their tastebuds by sampling Chinese food.
They then made Chinese dragons, lanterns and fans before parading around the school with them and doing a dragon dance.
At Chinese New Year we will move from the year of the dragon to the year of the snake. It will also be year 4711.
The date of Chinese New Year varies from year to year because it is based on the lunar calendar. Celebrations start with the new moon and end 15 days later with the full moon.
