Royal privilege for Biggleswade firm
A CHRONICLE Country company has become the only one in the world that can frame cards from the Queen with an official Royal cipher.
Biggleswade-based Royal Images, which has a Royal Appointment, can fit 100th birthday cards from Her Majesty in frames bearing the distinctive EIIR mark.
The firm is also urging relatives and friends of couples who are celebrating their 60th or later wedding anniversaries to make contact as the Queen can also send cards to them.
Mike O’Keefe, who has run the business with his wife Sue for 30 years, is proud to be selling the new frames in a Diamond Jubilee year.
He said: “The Royals have just started to offer the new cipher feature and we are delighted to be the only firm that can do this.
“It is always a real privilege to receive a card from the Queen and it is great to put it on the mantlepiece.
“But framing the card means that you can hang it up on the wall and keep it as a family heirloom which can be passed down through the generations.”
Last week Mike, 51, who lives in Potton, visited the home of the first person who has ordered the new frame.
Barbara Pearce, who is in her eighties wanted to preserve the card which was sent to her late mother Alice Austin when she turned 100.
Mike added: “Although her mother had passed away she wanted to put the card in a frame so it could be kept by the family for the future.”
Tens of thousands of cards are sent to men and women who are celebrating their 100th birthdays and to couples celebrating wedding anniversaries every year.
But Mike, who makes weekly trips to Buckingham Palace as part of his job, believes many couples who could receive cards are missing out.
He said: “The cards can be sent to couples who are marking their 60th, 65th, 70th anniversaries and so on but not many people know about it.
