School’s environmental garden officially open for business
Lower school children are feeling green.
The youngsters at Roecroft Lower School in Stotfold were delighted to see their new environmental garden officially opened by mayor of Stotfold Brian Collier on Wednesday morning.
Staff aim to show the children how to be more eco-friendly.
It is now being used as an outside learning environment incorporating the national curriculum. It provides social and mental wellbeing as well as physical exercise for the pupils who enjoy the facility.
The main aims of the environmental garden are for the schoolchildren to grow their own produce, to attract wildlife to the area and to create an area for reflection and inspiration for all areas of the national curriculum.
The pupils will grow their own vegetables, fruit and flowers for use at snack time and school dinners. Additional produce will be sold from the school office alongside their chicken eggs.
