School set to become science and engineering hub?
College seeks special status
Having already been successful in one application for specialist status a burgeoning school is at it again.
Samuel Whitbread Community College in Clifton has applied for the combined specialist status of Science and Engineering.
They hope that the new status would help the school to become an a hub for science and engineering in the area, for both local lower schools and businesses.
Around forty per cent of the youngsters who attend the school go on to work in the science and engineering sector in one way or another, and therefore it was an obvious route for them to pursue.
It also fits in with a county-wide perspective of offering a broad range of specialist schools to meet the needs of students.
If they were to get the extra funding they intend to spend it on extra staff and some new equipment.
Samuel Whitbread Community College gained special Training Status in a joint venture with Redbourne Upper School back in July, which meant an extra 50,000 to 60,000 a year for the school, over the next four years.
