School bell rings in the centenary for pupils

Ringing a traditional school bell is just one way pupils are celebrating their school's centenary year

Moggerhanger Lower School kickstarted a year of celebratory events to mark their 100th birthday this month by bringing back the school bell, which children have been ringing every day.

And over the next 12 months they will be holding different events every month to celebrate the milestone birthday, including having past pupils give a talk about what life at school was like 80 years ago, a traditional sports day event, and a tea party.

Headteacher Paul Marshall said: "The staff, children, in fact the whole community is really excited about the forthcoming year of celebrations.

"All the children have created a car sticker, which says 'we love our school why don't you come and visit,' which I think just proves what sort of school we are."

Events throughout the year include children reading 102 books to each other in half an hour, playing music from each decade, and asking past pupils and staff to contact the school with their memories.

Past pupils Keith Lawrence and Betty Barrance, both in their 80s, will be talking to pupils about school life when they were youngsters.

If any former pupils or staff would like to take part or have any old memories to share, they can call the school on 01767 640270.
