Schools cut energy bills

A council-led programme encouraging schools to ‘think green’ is having a huge impact in Central Bedfordshire.

Compared to last year, our area’s 139 schools have saved over £250,000 by reducing their carbon footprint.

Cllr Mark Versallion, Executive Member for Children’s Services, said: “I am really proud of the help Central Bedfordshire Council is giving schools to make these changes.

“The great thing about what’s happening is that the money saved on energy bills can instead be spent on educating pupils and achieving even better outcomes for our children.”

Some of the measures being implemented in schools include the installation of smart meters and solar panels.
