An international waste management business aims to help Central Beds Council improve its recycling rates.

Shanks Group also hopes to reduce costs for householders.

Under an initial two-and-a-half year contract Shanks will use its Frog Island MBT plant to recycle and treat black bin waste.

Around 26,000 tonnes a year will be processed, which was previously sent to landfill or incinerated.

Ian Goodfellow, UK managing director at Shanks said: “We are delighted to have secured this contract.”
