Their chips are golden and crispy, and have beaten all their competitors to be named as the best in the area.

Sheff’s Fish & Chips, located on Sun Street, Biggleswade, received the most votes in our contest and has been crowned the Biggleswade Chronicle Chip Shop of the Year, 2014.

The contest launched back in February, and was your chance to tell us your favourite fish and chip shop.

Your nominations created our final shortlist of five local establishments and after three weeks of voting, Sheff’s Fish & Chips has been crowned the winner!

Thank you to everyone who nominated, voted and got in touch – we’ve been overwhelmed by the response.

To commemorate their success, we presented Sheff’s with our special ‘Chip Shop of the Year 2014’ certificate.

Sheff ‘s Fish & Chips is a family run business with over 25 years experience frying traditional fish and chips.

New to Biggleswade but not to the trade, Nick and Claire Sheff took over and refurbished the property last summer and they’ve already been awarded the top food and hygiene rating from the food standards agency.

And now they have plans to open a restaurant area next door.

Claire said: “The feedback has been so good, it’s unbelievable, especially considering we haven’t been open that long.

“We’d really like to say thank you to everyone who supported us since we opened, and of course everyone who voted for us.

“We hope people will continue to be happy and we won’t rest on our laurels!”

Nick added: “We pride ourselves on high quality, tasty fish and chips. Our fish comes from sustainable sources and our potatoes are the best of British.

“We offer everything you would traditionally expect from your local chippy and we are also pleased to be able to offer gluten free options.

“The shop has really gone from strength to strength. Our family lives in Biggleswade so we know the area and it’s starting to become a real community shop.

“Everyone who has come in has come back, so that’s a good sign!”

Following on from the success of our chip shop of the year competition, we will shortly be launching our ‘Salon of the Year’ contest.

For full details on how to nominate your favourite hair and/or beauty salon, simply pick up a copy of this newspaper on Friday, May 9.
