Society award for ice cream study

A middle school student has won an award for her science.

Jessica Hill of Henlow Academy has earned a Royal Society Chemistry Award for her CREST Project entitled How Much Insulin Do Different Ice Creams Need?

Her project was one of 106 pieces of work entered in The Big Bang Eastern Science Fair in Duxford on Tuesday, July 8.

Jessica based her project on her personal experience of Type 1 Diabetes and decided to focus her Science CREST investigation upon the difficulties of choosing a simple thing to eat, such as an ice cream, and having to work out the correct amount of insulin needed; something most children take for granted.

She now wants to design an app to help people calculate how much insulin they need to inject.
