AN elderly tenant is appealing to a housing association to rid her loft of squirrels.

Ruby Nolan, 75, says she has been driven mad by the noise of the animals scampering around in her Biggleswade flat.

The first floor property in Copelands is part of an Aragon Housing Association sheltered complex.

Despite repeated pleas from Ruby and her daughter Tracey Gillard, the pair claim association staff have not dealt with the problem.

But Aragon have sent pest control experts to investigate and say they have not been able to find any squirrels in the loft.

Tracey, 54, who lives in Sandy said: “Mum first started to hear the squirrels back in August.

“I have been calling them since but the problem remains. The only thing they have done is to send pest control people over, but they just left a trap and asked mum to get back in touch.”

The constant noise and stress has had a significant affect on Ruby’s health, her family have said.

Tracey, of Glebe Road, added: “Since the squirrels arrived she has not been able to sleep properly and she is worried that one of them might drop out of the loft.”

But Bob Hopkins, assistant director of property at Aragon said: “Aragon staff have worked very closely with Mrs Nolan’s family in recent days and, along with representatives of the pest control company, have carried out several extensive investigations in her loft. Pest control experts have stated there was no evidence of animals of any kind found there.

“Aragon’s roofing contractors carried out a detailed inspection of the roof and have revealed there were no gaps anywhere and nowhere where an animal could get in.”

Aragon now believes the noise Ruby is experiencing may be squirrels running alongside the guttering outside her window.

The organisation has asked its contractors to install pest deterrents over the guttering to keep squirrels away.
