The final library to be refurbished in Chronicle Country is to close while work is carried out.
Shefford Library will be shut until Friday, February 23 while it is modernised and upgraded.
Central Beds Council is upgrading all of the facilities in its libraries as part of a 15-year scheme.
The layout at the library will change and new self-service machines will be installed for borrowing and returning books.
There will also be a refreshments machine and a new read and relax area.
In the next two years the council is investing £850,000 to improve the library service.
Councillor Brian Spurr, executive member for sustainable communities, services at the council said: “Shefford is a popular library and the improvements there will help make the service more efficient. Library staff will be freed up to spend more time helping customers and it demonstrates our commitment to investing in our libraries for the future.”
While the library is closed, members will be able to access the Virtual Library to renew their books and make requests at www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/librariesforthefuture
