Former Stone Roses guitarist will be rocking Biggleswade as just one of the acts in a charity fundraising gig.
Aziz Ibrahim, who still works with Stone Roses frontman Ian Brown and has also worked with other big names in the music industry, will be performing at Wadefest on July 19.
He will be joining the creme of local talent, with the fundraiser also featuring Boo Sells, Dave Gee, Nick Moyster, Paul Adams, Steve Wheatley and Adam Falconer.
The live acts will play from 7pm and afterwards there will be a sound clash between DJs
Gavin Beard and Adrian Waller who will be competing to see who can get the most people on the dance floor.
The evening will finish with a balloon release at midnight. Attendees can buy a balloon and release it to say goodbye, or even hello, to a loved one that is no longer here.
All money raised at the event will go towards St Johns Hospice, Keech Hospice and Lister Dialysis Unit.
Tracy Dorrington, who has organised the event, explained: “One of my friends, Andy, his partner was on dialysis. I’d see the messages on Facebook saying ‘we’re on our way to another session, still waiting for a transplant’. She ultimately did get a transplant.
“At the same time another friend had recently lost her daughter. I can’t even begin to imagine the trauma. Keech Hospice really helped her. And living in Biggleswade, there are so many people who have been touched in some way by St John’s.
I thought, we’ve got all this talent and we’ve got these good friends who are going through traumatic times, we should do something.”
Tracy, who is a drama teacher and singer, met Aziz via the internet, but was stunned when he offered to play at the charity gig she was in the middle of organising.
She added: “Ultimately it’s about raising as much for charity as we can. The more we can raise, the better.”
She is hoping that if the event goes well it could become an annual feature in the town’s social calendar.
Wadefest will take place at Biggleswade Town FC’s Carlesburg Stadium.
Tickets cost £10 and are available from Tracy on 07583 053283. You can also tweet her @BelieveMissT or email firstname.lastname@example.org
