Sweet taste of liquorice and bonbons

Shoppers with a sweet tooth will love a town’s new store.

Andy Maycock, proprietor of The Music Room in Sandy, opened Sweeties next to his existing shop on Monday.

It sells retro sweets such as Willy Wonka sweets as well as army and navy sweets and pontefract cakes, to name but a few. Another delicacy that has flown off the shelves is the chocolate pizza.

Andy, who is also a town councillor, said: “It’s had a really positive reception.

“I’d heard sweet shops are an up and coming business. I think it’s because of the recession; people want to feel good for not much money. It’s giving plenty of happiness.”

On Thursday, November 1 Andy will open a traditional toy store at the back of the shop with traditional wooden toys and pocket money toys.
