Swords and sandals all the way

It was swords and sandals all the way for pupils at a lower school.

Youngsters at Roecroft Lower School in Stotfold enjoyed a visit from an actual Roman as part of their studies on Monday (September 17),

The Roman visited the school from Portals to the Past, a firm which provides earth history and science workshops at lower and middle schools.

Year Three and Four children could try on the Roman’s armour and look at weapons from the time.

They also had the chance to play a traditional Roman board game, Delta, and learn about how the Romans lived.

Chris Stephen, assistant headteacher and Year Four teacher said: “The visit was part of our studies on the Great Italian Adventure.

“A significant part of this focuses on the Romans and the workshop with Portals to the Past helped to improve the pupils’ understanding of the subjects involved.”
