Television fame is calling for Daniel

A BUDDING young actor has been cast as an extra in one of the biggest television shows of the year so far.

Eleven-year-old Daniel Statham spent all but one week of the summer holidays in the studio filming for Call the Midwife.

The BBC drama tells the story of 1950s midwives working in a deprived area of East London. It started airing in January and is attracting around eight million viewers.

The Sandye Place Academy pupil was given a one year contract with Top Talent Agency in Stevenage last February after he won a competition.

Daniel, who lives in Wesley Road in Sandy, also acted in an Aviva advert that ran during Downtown Abbey’s commercial breaks but unfortunately the advert had to be shortened and his part was cut out.

But now he has finally made it to the small screen.

Daniel’s mother, Laura Statham, said: “In the first episode of Call the Midwife he was in five times, playing football and pulling faces.

“Daniel doesn’t get star struck and he doesn’t realise that there are eight million people watching him and how many people see him!”
