Train firm promises to review power lines

Train operator First Capital Connect (FCC) has promised to review power supplies on its lines following major disruptions.

FCC trains were disrupted last week when a 1km section of overhead electrical wire between Sandy and St Neots collapsed on Tuesday evening (February 19).

Customers suffered long delays, a limited service between Biggleswade and King’s Cross and no service between Peterborough and Sandy.

Neal Lawson, managing director of FCC said: “We are working with other train operators to ensure that customers can get to their final destination using alternative routes...our customers deserve better than ongoing replacement buses and long journey times.

“We will be reviewing the maintenance of power supply with Network Rail to avoid similar disruptions going forward”.

Phil Verster, Network Rail route director has also apologised for the disruption.

North-East Beds MP Alistair Burt has criticised FCC following a Which? survey where the firm came bottom of the table, with just a 40 per cent satisfaction rate.
