Unveiling history of a railway line

editorial image

Discover the history of a railway line.

The last autumn talk from Sandy Tourist Information Centre will be about the Sandy to Potton railway.

The private line was built in 1857 by Captain Sir William Peel, son of the prime minister, Sir Robert Peel. The line ran the Shannon engine.

It was taken over by the Bedford to Cambridge Railway in 1862 and then by LNWR. The line closed in 1967.

Hear local historian, George Howe, speak in the Sandy council chamber on Thursday, November 1 at 7.30pm.

It costs £5 per person. Booking is essential. Call the TIC on 01767 682728 or email tourism@sandytowncouncil.gov.uk to do so.
