Water restored after burst main

Mon 3pm - Sandy returns to normal

Water has been restored to Sandy following a burst main today that affected up to 5,000 homes and businesses.

The town's supply came on again at around 2.45pm after being off for almost 12 hours.

A spokesman for Anglian Water confirmed damage to a 12-inch trunk main which burst due to pressure from natural ground movement.

It happened between Hatch on the A603 road and the A1 Sandy roundabout.

The water company sent out bottled water to customers on its water care register to help residents including the elderly and disabled.

Sandy councillor Max McMurdo also distributed bottles to vulnerable people in the area.

A full report will appear in this week's Biggleswade Chronicle.
