Pupils triumph in fanfare contest
SCHOOLCHILDREN hit all the right notes in a fanfare competition.
Four youngsters from Burgoyne Middle School in Potton enjoyed a visit to the Royal Opera House (ROH) in London after being named as winners in the contest.
India James, 13 and Lucy Farestvedt, Ainan Ali and Adam Deans, all 12, spent a day at the Covent Garden venue after their compositions were chosen ahead of more than 250 others from schools across the UK.
Pupils were asked to submit their own fanfares using keyboards in music lessons.
Burgoyne music coordinator Leigh James then orchestrated them on his computer before sending them on to judges at the ROH.
During an extended interval in an ROH performance on May 29 members of the public will hear the compositions played in full by an orchestra.
Mr James said youngsters had shown great appetite for the competition and no shortage of talent.
He said: "I think we have some talented musicians of the future here."
