MADD day out for children in the community


Pupils and teachers were crazy about Make a Difference Day (MADD).

The event took place on Tuesday, July 1.

It involved Stratton Upper School, Edward Peake Middle School, Biggleswade Academy, St Andrew’s Lower School and Lawnside Lower School in Biggleswade.

Gamlingay Village College, Sutton Lower, Dunton Lower, Wrestlingworth Lower, Upper Caldecote Lower and Northill Lower School also took part.

The aim was for everyone to change their community for the better in a small way on the day. More than 1,000 children and 100 teachers were involved.

Activities included clearing churchyards, taking part in a readathon and entertaining elderly residents at a tea party. Some ambitious older students even went to Peru to help build a school!

Colin Pheysey, head of Gamlingay Village College, said: “It was so nice for the children to have this joint effort to focus on the 
community and live the 

“So far we have raised £180 towards CLIC Sargent cancer care and I know all the other Biggleswade Cluster Union of Schools (BCUS) are working hard to make a difference in their communities.”
