A sports centre has scooped a national award.

Sandy Sports Centre has been recognised as the number one Quest Plus centre in the UK. The centre, which is managed by Stevenage Leisure Limited in partnership with Central Beds Council (CBC), was crowned as the Highest Scoring Facility Management Centre 2013 out of more 600 facilities at the national Quest/NBS Conference in Loughborough.

Quest is the UK’s recognised quality scheme for leisure centres across the UK, which are examined across all areas of their operations. The Quest scheme sets the standards for the industry and encourages the ongoing success and development of leisure facilities by focussing on the people using them.

In its two day assessment Sandy Sports Centre was rated as ‘excellent’ in areas including maintenance and equipment, teamwork, continuous improvement and environmental management.

Councillor Brian Spurr, executive member for sustainable communities, services at CBC, said: “Achieving Quest plus in and of itself is a fantastic achievement but being chosen as the best of over 600 facilities is a absolutely phenomenal.

“I’d like to thank the staff for their hard work and dedication.”
