A Bedford man described as a ‘predatory paedophile’ has been jailed for 14 years for historic sexual abuse of children.

Michael Malin, 78, of Ampthill Road, Bedford, was found guilty of nine counts of sexual offences committed against children under the age of 16.

Over a period of five years Malin sexually abused two boys – with the abuse starting when the victims were aged just 11 and 12.

Malin gave the victims money and forced them to carry out sexual acts in return.

Yesterday (Monday) he was sentenced to a total of 14 years and described as a predatory paedophile by the judge. He will also be on the sex offenders register for life.

Detective Constable Amanda Durrant, investigating officer, said: “The abuse carried out by Malin was absolutely abhorrent so I’m pleased that he will be locked away for a substantial amount of time.

“Malin groomed his victims, exploiting their youth and vulnerability, then carried out horrific abuse.

“This case is an example of how we are committed to investigating any allegation of sexual abuse and that justice can still be done, even if the offences occurred several years ago.

“We hope this gives other people who may have been sexually abused in the past to come forward in the knowledge that they will be listened to and taken seriously, and it’s not too late for action to be taken.”

“The sentence can never make up for the distress that the victims have experienced but we hope that this will help them in the process of moving on.”

If you have been affected by sexual abuse and would like to contact the police, you can do so by calling 101. You can also call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
