Former physiotherapist for Arlesey Town Football Club, Len McMain, has been selected to join the Jamaica and Serbia squads in their forthcoming 2017 Rugby League World Cup qualifiers.
Jamaica will play USA and Canada in Jacksonville in June and Serbia will play Wales and Italy in October in their bid to make the finals in Australia in 2017.
Len, who will join the teams later this year, said: “This is a great honour for me and I look forward to the challenge.”
He joined the Arlesey club in 2010 and during his time there worked with them to win promotion to the Southern Premership and win the Red Insure League Cup, Beds Premier and Senior Cup. Len was appointed to look after Jamaica Rugby League players in the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
He said: “I first made contact with the Serbian club in 2006 when I went on tour to Serbia with England Lionhearts RL. I have become good friends and helped them as much as I can over the years to build the sport in their country. This is the closest they have ever been to playing in the World Cup finals.”
Serbia will have to get past Wales, Italy and possibly Russia to get there.
Len added: “I class this as a great honour to be asked to be involved and that people respect my skills to this high standard. I would like to thank Prestige Clothing in Barton and Timeless pub co.ltd of Dunstable for their sponsorship.”
Currently a physio for St Albans Centurions, Len also provided medical cover at the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics at the Velodrome and O2 Arena.
