Following last year’s success, when it raised a phenomenal £100,000, Sue Ryder-St John’s Hospice Starlight Hike returns on Saturday, September 13 with organisers promising it will be another star-studded and magical evening.

The 10k night-time walking challenge starts at 10pm. This year the route will be in and around the hospice itself with time for reflection as well as having fun. And it is something everyone can get involved in. You do not need to have lost a loved one at the hospice to take part.

Registration is now open for individuals and teams. Sponsorship money raised will go directly to help care for those admitted to the hospice with life-limiting and end-of-life conditions.

Every year St John’s Hospice, part of the Sue Ryder national charity, needs to raise £2.4 million to keep its doors open and provide the care needed by its patients as well as supporting their families.

Fay Boissieux, event organiser at St John’s said: “The Starlight Hike is a fun way of getting family, friends and colleagues together in a beautiful location. On the night there is the opportunity to remember loved ones in our Starlight Avenue, a space where people have the chance to reflect on those who are no longer with us.

“After crossing the finish line, hikers will be rewarded with a luxury goody bag in the knowledge they have all been stars themselves for a night and done something incredible for people living with incurable illness.”

The night kicks off with on-stage entertainment and a warm up for the hundreds of hikers taking part. Walkers will then follow a safe marshalled route around the 18-acre grounds of the hospice and the surrounding countryside with entertainment along the way. The walk finishes in the hospice’s lovely memory garden where you will have time to remember loved ones.

You do not have to be a walker to get involved as marshalls are always needed, along with general volunteers to help on the night.
