English Rosie is crowned at rural England's finest day out!

A beautiful sunny day saw thousands of people turn out to see the crowning of Ickwell's new May Queen.

After a run of bad weather in recent years, the sun came out to play, meaning everyone could truly enjoy their May Day out.

The day's events began at The Crown, in Northill, with beer, burgers and Morris dancing before a procession, led by the newly-formed Ickwell May Day band, made its way to Ickwell Green.

There, the new May Queen, Rosie Sallis, of Queen's Close, Northill, was crowned by outgoing Queen Amy Cox.

Rosie then led the dancing around the maypole. And despite a near diaster when one of the ribbons fell from the pole, everything was soon put back on track when it was reattached by a man in a smock!

Committee member Louisa Rix said: "It was a lovely day, the nicest we have had for some years.

"There was a really happy atmosphere with a lot of people who all really seemed to be enjoying themselves.

"It is a formula that seems to work and this year it really worked."
