Britten Sinfonia pay Bedford a visit
The sounds of tango and baroque will be filling the Stevenage Gordon Craig Theatre as Britten Sinfonia pays it a visit.

Vivaldi's joyful Oboe Concerto in C opens the performance, followed by Piazzolla's exuberant Spring in Buenos Aires and although these composers are worlds apart their music shares the same Latin dance-like energy.

Fellow Argentinian Osvaldo Golijov composed Last Round in 1996 as a tribute to Piazzolla, 'the last great Tango composer'.

Benjamin Britten's arrangement of Purcell's Chacony is written for harpsichord and strings, and is a sumptuous scoring of this beautiful and majestic dance.

Lesser known than his other works, Stravinsky's Concerto in D is one of his most bright and accessible works. Like other works in the programme it features several dance elements and has often been arranged for ballet.

Bach's beautiful double concert for oboe, violin and strings concludes the programme.

Tickets are £20 or £18 from the box office on 08700 131030 or www.gordon-craig.co.uk

Yes, aliens are out there
No, a load of rubbish
They are all just sky lanterns
