Biggleswade archer prepares for Euro championships

Biggleswade bowman Neil Bridgewater is competing for Archery GB as they host the European Championships later this month.

He is part of the men’s compound bow team alongside Duncan Busby and Adam Ravenscroft.

Neil, 48, is an experienced archer who started shooting in 1980, switching to the compound bow in 2009.

Last year Neil won the men’s compound title at the National Series Finals.

Earlier this month he competed on behalf of Great Britain at the Archery World Cup in Shanghai.

This tournament is taking place in Nottingham from May 23 to 29 and is hosted by Archery GB in association with The Nottingham Building Society.

The GB team will compete against archers from across the continent at the qualification and elimination rounds at the University of Nottingham during the week of the Championship.

They will be hoping to achieve Rio Olympics qualification places as well as making the team and individual head-to-head finals that take place in a purpose-built arena in the heart of Nottingham.

David Tillotson, Performance Director at Archery GB, said: “To have a home European Championship as well as the Olympic Games in the same year is a very exciting prospect and we’re working on using this energy and drive to be really competitive.”
