Arlesey Town groundsharing plan revealed
Arlesey Town Football Club is to ground share next season with a newly-formed club to be known as Arlesey Athletic.
The host Ryman League club has also decided to drop its reserve team from the Spartan South Midlands League at the end of the current season.
but it will not be entering the new Beds County Reserve League which is to be made up of a dozen reserve teams from Bedfordshire's other senior clubs.
Instead, Arlesey Athletic FC has been formed as a totally separate club.
It has applied and been accepted into Division Two of the Spartan South Midlands League in much the same way that Bedford Town used to share with Bedford Eagles at the New Eyrie and Barton Rovers had close links with Milcutt Rovers at Sharpenhoe Road.
A spokesman for Arlesey Town Football Club said: "Sharing our facilities is simply a way of generating more income for the club. In the long term it makes so much sense."
And also making full use of the Blues' excellent Hitchin Road facilities will be Letchworth Ladies who lost their inaugural match at the venue on Sunday.
They bowed out of the Women's FA Vauxhall Aftersales Challenge Plate at the first round stage after going down 3-2 to visitors Stanway. Next season, Letchworth will be known as Arlesey Town Ladies.
