Batting first against Burwell, Waresley lost early wickets and were in a little trouble at 65-4 after 16 overs.

However a stand of 170 between Allcock (128) and Sam Johnson (48) put Waresley back in the game, and with the lower middle order contributing useful runs, a final score of 316-8 looked imposing.

All the Burwell bowlers were punished, although Matt Hague finished with five wickets from his 10 overs.

Burwell made a flying start with the bat, until Nigel Buckingham-Jones (4-24) applied the brakes with a superb spell of bowling, ably supported by Gary Cole (0-25).

Hague (108) also starred with the bat for Burwell, helping the home side to get to 256-8 from their 50 overs but it wasn’t enough to prevent Waresley securing their first win of the season.

This weekend sees Foxton the visitors to Waresley.

They are replaced at the bottom by Blunham who fell to their fourth straight league defeat at Ramsey although their performance earned some useful bonus points.

The home side posted 263-8 with consistent batting right down the order. It was a difficult day for the bowlers but Deryn Fowler picked up three wickets.

Blunham’s reply was always just off the pace. eight players made double figures but only opener Adam White made it to 30, and the innings closed on 199, 64 runs short.

Blunham visit Ramsey III on Saturday.
