At Warlesey, visitors Saffron Walden batted first and steadily compiled 225 all out in their 50 overs. A dropped catch off Alec Smith (84) when he was still on nought might well have made a significant difference.

Waresley’s three spinners all bowled economically, with Chetan Chauhan (3 -31) the most successful, whereas the combined 20 overs of seam went for 124 runs.

Waresley needed a solid start from their openers if they were going to chase down the score, but wickets continued to tumble on a regular basis. Charlie Lewis (20), Ian Donald (22) and Dominic Farr (29) all made starts, but none went on to build a major innings and Waresley were bowled out in the 45th over for 150.

Meanwhile excellent performances from Matt Benson and Deryn Fowler couldn’t prevent Blunham stumbling to a 20 run defeat against Godmanchester.

Benson snared three of the top order batsmen for ducks as Godmanchester were all at sea at 10-4. However they recovered to make 156 all out, Benson ending with 5-22 off 7.1 overs being ably supported by Fowler with 4-37.

The Blunham reply began disastrously as Adam White was bowled with the first ball of the innings. Benson and Fowler top scored with the bat, both making 31, but the innings eventually petered out for 136.
