Brownridge hits double ton in Warden victory

He put the bowlers of Ampthill Town to the sword in their Beds Invitation League Division One clash.

His double ton featured 23 fours and seven sixes before being finally ended caught and bowled.

He received excellent support from Edward Holland (72) and Dominic Mawdsley (57) as Old Warden posted a formidable score of 379-6 off their 45 overs.

It was always going to be a tough ask for their visitors and so it proved. Their total of 215-8 was respectable although far short of their target. Ben Dove, Edward Holland and Tom Murphy all took two wickets in Warden’s 164 run win.

Elsewhere in Division One Langford were involved in one of those rare outcomes in cricket – a tied match at Houghton Chargers.

Langford batted first and were restricted to a modest 126 all out, Luke Peters top scoring with an unbeaten 40.

As Houghton’s top three all put runs on the board Langford looked set for defeat. However Davy Shippey had other ideas and his six wickets for 13 runs off eight oversx tore the Chargers’ batting apart.

He dismissed the final two Houghton batsmen for ducks to see them also score 126 and share the honours.

In Division Two Henlow were comfortable victors over Caldecote, while Sandy were 25 run winners over Clifton.

Sandy batted first and put in a steady performance, Colin Finding top scoring with 35 in the score of 200.

As Clifton replied Lee Eplett took the first two wickets cheaply.

Connor Robson then led the innings, smashing 84 including 12 boundaries, but there was precious little support as Ben Howlett took 5-34 in his nine overs. Clifton’s innings closed on 175-9.

In Division Three Kevin Wright scored 64 and Harry Roberts an unbeaten 52 in Biggleswade II’s 53 run win at home to Henlow II.

Their runs helped Biggleswade post a score of 194-5, Tomkins taking three wickets for Henlow. The visitors were always behind in the chase, finishing on 141-8.
