Fifth Cambs League win in a row for Waresley

Waresley recorded their fifth win in a row in the Cambs Tucker Premier League on Saturday.

Put into bat on a wet Waresley wicket, the home team made heavy weather of some accurate bowling early on, but crucially did not lose wickets.

As Godmanchester rotated their bowlers, Waresley started to build some momentum into their innings. Nobody found runs easy, with skipper Tom Griffiths topscoring with 33. He was supported by Nick Taylor (22), Jake Allcock (21) and Rob Lowin (20).

For Godmanchester, Russel Withey (12 runs from 10 overs) and Simon Rose (2-13 runs from 8 overs) were economical, and Waresley’s total of 150 all out looked slightly below par.

The visitors found runs equally hard to come by, until Paul Swannell (40) came to the crease. He set about the Waresley spinners with two sixes and six fours, but was undone by Gary Cole (10 overs, 2-24).

The remaining wickets were all shared around, with Jack Richards (9 overs, 2-30) also proving a handful, as Godmanchester were bundled out for 115.

Blunham remain winless at the bottom of the table but ran Saffron Walden close.

Visitors Walden posted 192-9. A rain interruption then prompted a revised target of 181 for Blunham, and at 125-4 they looked well placed, but when Shabz Hussain (41) and Connor Heaps (47) were out the innings collapsed to 153 all out.
