Hearn hat-trick seals thrilling win for Potton

Tom Hearn took a hat-trick for Potton Town II as they managed a thrilling two run Herts League win at home to St Margaretsbury III on Saturday.

Potton chose to bat first but it didn’t look like their 101 all out total would be anywhere near enough to win this Regional Division A East fixture.

Steve Gurney made 20 at the top of the order while Giles Carter weighed in with 41, including a six, but there were precious few other contributions down the order.

However Hearn quickly turned the game Potton’s way with the ball. He took a hat-trick to rip out the top of the St Margaretsbury order and ended with figures of 4-12 off his eight overs.

Jonathan Corrigan took three wickets and Carter mopped up two of the tail as the visitors were bowled out two runs short of Potton’s total, in 37 overs.

A batting collapse saw Potton’s first XI fall to a heavy defeat at Eversholt in the Herts League Division 2B.

Things had started brightly for Town with Niall Hamshere and James Howlett removing the home side’s openers cheaply.

But Eversholt’s Ryan Harding (36) and Jack Nichols (73no) built a healthy partnership and further runs from Luke Singleton (48) saw them reach 203-6 in their 50 overs. Hamshere was economical with the ball, conceding just 14 runs off his 10 overs.

However the Potton reply soon fell apart. Steve Moules carved out 31 from the 55 balls he faced but not one of his colleagues could make double figures. The side collapsed to 76 all out giving Eversholt a 127 run success.

It leaves Potton still searching for their first league win, they head to Allenburys & County Hall on Saturday.

In Division 5B Clifton were comfortable winners over Luton Town & Indians III. Clifton batted first and put themselves in a great position with 285-5 off 50 overs. It proved too much for Indians who were all out for 168.
