Park defeat champions to lead Premier Division

The 42-run success at the Park was their third win out of three and sees them top of the Premier Division.

Having chosen to bat, openers Chris Watt and Najam Sheraz gave Southill the perfect start with a century partnership.

Watt fell for 39 as the partnership was ended with the score on 113 but Sheraz went on to make 95 and, with further support from Hayden Morton (37) and Jack Good (33), the side made 223-7.

The Dunstable reply began no less impressively, as their openers put on 81 runs. Benjamin Abbott went on to score an amazing 103 off 46 balls, an innings containing five sixes.

However it was George Darlow who made the difference as he removed all five of the top order batsmen.

The tail barely wagged, Dominic Chatfield and Jack Good taking two wickets each as Dunstable were all out for 181 in the 34th over.

There were defeats for the three other local Premier Division sides.

Blunham’s bowlers were given an almighty battering by Luton Town & Indians, losing by 232 runs.

Sachin Wagh joined forces with Luton opener and captain Thomas Mills in a stunning second wicket stand. Mills was out for 120, before Wagh finished 207 not out as his side made 419-3 from 45 overs.

Blunham were never in the hunt as although opener Connor Heaps hit 87, they finished on 187-5.

Waresley collapsed to a 187 run defeat at home to Flitwick. The visitors batted first and made 288 all out, Peter Colebrook taking five wickets.

The reply stuttered to 8-3 and although Chetan Chauhan made 42 at a run a ball the side were bowled out for 101.

Langford were edged out at home to Eversholt. After setting the visitors a modest 168 target, Harry Jerome top scoring with 36, they had Eversholt pegged back at 1-1 and 39-3. However the visitors rallied to make the runs with one over and five wickets to spare.

Biggleswade Town are top of Division One after securing an eight wicket win at Eggington Foresters. George Boyd took three wickets to help skittle the hosts for 104. Adam Dagless (34no) and Adam Lawrence (27no) steered Biggleswade home in just 23 overs to knock off the runs.

Potton also cruised to an eight wicket success, at Ampthill. David Sanders picked up four wickets as Ampthill were all out for 205. Steady scoring from Potton opener Sean Stevens (75) was backed up by unbeaten knocks from Stephen Williams (50) and Kelvin MacFarlane (40) to secure the win.

In Division Two Ickwell provided a feast of runs as they batted first against rivals Caldecote and amassed 325-6.

Ben Welch (73) got the innings off to an aggressive start as he plundered his runs off 56 balls.

Meanwhile young Harry Fallows (106) at number four was quietly settling in. He put together a delightful innings as he found the gaps between the fielders and scored 14 fours. In the 26th over he was joined by Ross Cunningham (86) and they put together a fifth wicket stand of 154. Fallows went on to score a well deserved maiden century in senior cricket while Cunningham’s innings included many controlled and powerful drives.

By the fourth over of the reply Caldecote were already 6-3 and had struggled to 66-6 by the 22nd over. James Vallom (52) provided some spirited resistance in his 41 ball innings with three sixes.

Daniel Denton put in a memorable spell of bowling with just seven runs coming from his nine overs. Skipper Milin Gandhi ran out Luke Davey with a sensational direct hit. Caldecote were all out for 151 to give Ickwell a handsome win by 174 runs.​
