Peters piles on the runs for Langford in Invitation League

Langford chose to bat first at their Playing Fields home and although Phil Ord was out cheaply Conor Robson (34) and Graeme Down (31) steadied the ship. Peters, coming in at number four then hit 13 fours and two sixes in his 111 and further runs from Thomas Westwood (36) saw the side to 264-5.

Ben Dove was the most economical bowler, taking 1-29 off his nine overs.

In reply Dominic Mawdsley (38) and Neil Rainbow (42) were the top scorers but Old Warden ended their 45 overs on 203-8, 64 runs short. Peters returned figures of 2-18 off his nine overs while Pete Edwins bagged three wickets.

Henlow comfortably notched up their third successive victory in Division Two to move into second spot.

Visitors Pilgrims Oakley II made a bright start but then lost wickets at regular intervals to Scott Spicer (4-17 in seven overs) and Neil Tompkins (3-12 in seven overs) before late resistance saw them reach 115 all out.

Henlow lost only one wicket in reaching their target in the 24th over thanks to Adrian Crawley (36no), Marcus Crawley (29) and Lee Ownsworth (30no).

Harry Chinn and Ben Howlett helped Sandy secure a fourth league win with a five wicket success at local rivals Caldecote.

The visitors chose to bat first at Sandy and Sameer Safi was their top scorer with 39 in a total of 136. There were three wickets apiece for Chinn, Sam Nugent and Darren Wheatley.

Caldecote gave themselves hope when they took three early Sandy wickets but Chinn (61) and Howlett (53) then put together what turned out to be a match-winning partnership, Sandy’s winning runs then being struck in the 38th over.

In Division Three Biggleswade II held hosts Pavenham & Felmersham to 150-4 but their own batting collapsed to 61 all out, condemning them to an 89 run defeat.
