Potton's batsmen dig in to grind out draw

Potton escaped from Hemel Hempstead II with a draw on Saturday after their batsmen dug in and refused to budge.

Hemel, sitting bottom of the Herts League Division Two B, were put into bat and managed to make 155-9 from their 52 overs.

Dan Hall returned 3-39 from 14 overs while Sean Stevens mopped up most of the tail end (4-24).

The rains came to interrupt the Potton reply and Hemel captain Rory Fraser ripped through the top order. Martin Botha took three wickets and after 22 overs Potton were at 52-7.

However Stevens (25no) and Martin Waker (10no) then dug in and played out the next 21 overs without losing another wicket, closing on 97-7.

Potton Town II also drew but they were so close to winning. They scored 218-6 while Hitchin held on at 95.9 in reply. Jarvis took 2-5 off seven overs and Jonathan Corrigan 3-23.
