Swashbuckling innings from Williams sets Potton match alight

Williams hit his 50 from just 32 balls – his final score of 89, including four sixes, came off just 44 balls. James Worboys chipped in with 40 as Potton posted 269-9 on the scoreboard.

Cople’s Lewis Perrin (71) and Robert Draper(60) put together a sizeable third wicket partnership in reply but once they went the innings subsided. Ben Welch did the damage with 4-24 off seven overs while Kelvin MacFarlane polished off the tail, taking 4-19 in 4.1 overs, as Potton won by 49 runs.

Biggleswade found runs hard to come by at home to Ampthill Town in Division One on Sunday.

They restricted their visitors to 214-9, Matthew Twigg returning the best figures with 4-26 off nine overs.

However wickets fell cheaply at the top of the order when Biggleswade batted. Chris Waghorn, Chris Walford and Daniel Watson offered some late resistance down the order but the side were bowled out 46 runs short.

In the Premier Division Southill Park tumbled to a narrow two run defeat at Lutonian. Najam Sheraz and Lee Hoggett both took 3-28 as Lutonian were all out for 169.

The Southill reply started off in fine style with decent knocks from Andrew Collins (35), Sheraz (31) and Shaylen Tomlinson-Patel (47). but from 129-3 the wickets started to tumble and a last wicket stand of 22 was ended two runs short of the target.

Langford fell from 58-0 to 125 all out at home to Flitwick. It took their visitors just 32 overs to polish off the runs.

A fine bowling display gave Biggleswade II victory at Queens Park Westfield II in Division Four.

Batting first, Biggleswade posted a respectable 153-9 with Bruce Ditcham (37) and George Bascom (45) the top run getters.

Town’s bowlers then tore into Queens Park’s batting line-up. Adam Giddings took figures of 4-42, while two wickets apiece for Luke Ball, George Boyd and Max Smith (2-5 off five overs) saw the hosts skittled for 96.

Biggleswade Development side tops the Development Division with Ampthill the latest victims.

Ampthill were bowled out for 94 when they batted first, with Joe Gauge, Josh Brodie-Browne, Jack Lorimer and Aiden Wright all claiming a couple of wickets.

Biggleswade polished off the runs for the loss of four wickets.
