Waresley edged out in close encounter

Waresley lost a close game against Saffron Walden in Tucker Gardner Division One on Saturday.

Batting first on an excellent wicket, Waresley made a slow start, only scoring 38 runs from the first 20 overs.

Alex Scully (64) and Rob Lowin (27) were the only batsmen to really attack the bowlers, and a score of 168 from 50 overs always looked below par.

Some excellent bowling from Waresley, particularly Gary Cole (10-1-24-2) who was returning from injury, and Nigel Buckingham-Jones (10-2-23-1), reduced the home side to 87-5.

But a dropped catch off Alistair Russell (67*) proved crucial early in his innings, and the home side got over the line with two overs to spare.

Bottom side Blunham lost by seven wickets at Godmanchester Town, Geoffrey Fitzgerald top scoring for Blunham with 43 from 55 balls batting at number eight.
