Williams claims six wickets in Shield romp

Cople chose to bat at The Hollow last Thursday and openers Darius Skipsey (11) and Oliver George (14) put some early runs on the board.

However Williams removed both of them and then went on to take four more wickets as the Cople innings collapsed.

He ended with figures of 6-6 off four overs. Meanwhile at the other end Ramohan Bhogal was in fine form too, taking the other four wickets.

No other Cople batsmen made double figures, six of them going for ducks, as they were skittled for 44.

Potton’s James Worboys made 24 and James Howlett 22 as they knocked off the runs in the ninth over without losing a wicket to put them into the second round.

Meanwhile Bedfordshire Under 17s exacted revenge for a Heritage Cup exit at the hands of Southill Park by knocking them out out of the Shield on Friday.

It was also a low-scoring affair. Southill opted to bat first at the Park but soon regretted that as Alex Evans ripped through the batting, taking 6-5 in 3.2 overs.

Southill were in all sorts of problems at 21-5. They rallied to 45-6, but the final four wickets fell for just three runs.

The Under 17s didn’t find batting that easy either but managed to pass the Southill total in 13 overs. Kashif Ali scored 21, including a six, and Liam Everitt was unbeaten on 15.

This booked their place in the competition’s semi-finals.

The other three second round ties, to be played by next Friday, June 3, see Caldecote play Biggleswade, Ickwell host Waresley and Potton play Blunham.
