Arlesey dump Hitchin out of Red Insure Cup

The Blues twice came from behind in normal time in this First Round tie played in appalling weather at Top Field. Robbie Burns put Hitchin ahead through a free kick but Hallelujah Basmel levelled just before the break.

Simon Martin restored the Canaries’ lead on 50 minutes but Stefan Bailey converted a penalty for Arlesey to make it 2-2 at full time and force a penalty shoot-out.

Both teams converted their opening five kicks to send the shoot-out to sudden death. But Martell Powell missed for Hitchin and it was left to James Sage to convert the winner for Arlesey.

The Blues return to league action on Saturday when they host Histon.
