Arlesey Town lost 1-0 to Farnborough on Saturday but can take heart from a decent performance against the Southern League Division One Central’s second placed side.

Although Farnborough were busy all afternoon they were generally kept at bay by the Arlesey defence and Bart in goal had a really good game with some fine saves.

The Blues failed to create the chances of previous games but Farnborough’s defence was better than most faced they had faced this season.

The only goal came via an Edward Smith penalty midway through the first half. The home side had a good shout for a spot kick in the second half but it was wasn’t given.

Arlesey visit Hanwell Town on Saturday.

>> Match referee Richard Hart wrote to the league after the game praising both sides. He wrote: “I have been at this level refereeing for four seasons and I can honestly say that this was the best game I have refereed in all that time!

”Team benches were excellent and both teams just wanted to play good attractive football. When you have two teams that are willing to talk to me as a referee rather than berate every decision it makes the whole afternoon so much more enjoyable. Also it was refreshing to have two team captains that played their part brilliantly.”
