Bedfordshire League preview: January 24

At their Renhold Playing Field base they play hosts to bottom of the table Lidlington United Sports whose away record to date shows just one victory from 10 outings, all of which suggests United should open up their 2015 campaign with a victory.

Of the other clubs perhaps still with hopes of lifting that said title themselves, two go head to head at Marston Playing Fields where fifth place hosts Marston Shelton Rovers receive a visit from third place AFC Oakley M&DH and if the Rovers were to lose their third home game of the season then you would think that would be their title hopes blown away.

Also still very much in that title race are fourth place Flitwick Town and for them it’s a trip to Lodge Road in quest of their fifth consecutive away win to face the hosting seventh place Sharnbrook and over at Hitchin Road nothing less than the full three points will do for current league leaders Shefford Town & Campton when they play hosts to second from bottom of the table Ickwell & Old Warden who will be looking for their third consecutive victory.

Other action coming at Pavenham Playing Fields, the venue at which eleventh place Pavenham having lost their last two outings play hosts to third from bottom of the table Caldecote who are still looking for their first away win of the season. Whilst at Jubilee Playing Fields twelfth place hosts Wilstead will be taking on ninth place Sandy who are now unbeaten in their last five starts away from their Bedford Road Recreation Ground base.

The final game in this division takes place at Weston Park, the venue at which hosts Wootton Blue Cross winners of their last three home starts and unbeaten in their last five outings entertain Eastcotts AFC who will hit the road looking for just their second away win of the season.

In Division One supported by Wests Citroen Bedford action, with Henlow sitting the afternoon out and Great Barford playing hosts at their Fisher Close base to Queens Park Crescents in a Quarter-final tie in this seasons Bedfordshire FA Intermediate Cup it should give the leading two championship contenders a chance to take a stranglehold of the proceedings at the head of the table.

For current league leaders Elstow Abbey, now winners of their last three away games and unbeaten in their last eight, it’s a trip to King George VI Playing Fields to face eleventh place AFC Oakley M&DH Reserves who have won just the once on home soil all season.

Whilst fourth place Cranfield United will be home Crawley Road action where they still hold down a seasons 100% record looking to take their current winning ways up to seven games against the visiting ninth place Sundon Park Rangers who will hit the road looking to avoid their fifth consecutive away defeat.

Over at Hillgrounds, eighth place AFC Kempston Town & Bedford College Reserves will be searching out their third home win on the bounce when they play hosts to bottom of the table Marabese Ceramics who are now without a victory since winning their only away game of the season at Meltis Albion back in early October. Talking of fifth place Meltis Albion, they will be hitting the road for Cople Playing Fields to be hosted by twelfth place Bedford SA in search of just their third away win of the season.

Other action coming at Mill Lane, the venue at which seventh place hosts Potton Town look for their third win on the bounce when they face AFC Harlington who will travel in search of their third away win on the bounce and at Rectory Road, Shefford Town & Campton Reserves now losers of their last seven outings receive a visit from sixth place Riseley Sports who will be in search of just their second away win of the season.

In Division Two the title race now looks to be down to a four club shoot-out and this weekend for current league leaders Clapham Sports its a trip on the road to the Warren to face fifth place Elstow Abbey Reserves in search of their ninth win on the bounce. Whilst second place Stevington will be in home Playing Field action looking to defend their seasons unbeaten home league ways and chalk up league win number 11 on the bounce against the visiting eighth place Moggerhanger United.

For third place Westoning now on a seven game winning league run run it’s home Greenfield Road action against 12th place Marston Shelton Rovers Reserves. Whilst the quartet of championship hopefuls is made up by fourth place FC Houghton who will be hitting the road for a Hockey Centre outing against third from bottom of the table Bedford United looking for win number 12 on the bounce against a United side seeking their first home league win in five outings.

Other action coming at Harvey Close, the venue at which second from bottom of the table Caldecote Reserves take on seventh place Kempston Hammers Sports now enjoying a three game unbeaten away run and at Cutler Hammer, ninth place Kempston Athletic look to repair the damage of losing their last three league outings when visited by bottom of the table Wilstead Reserves who are still in search of their first win of the season.

The final action in this section takes place at Miller Road being the venue where tenth place hosts Meltis Albion Reserves losers of their last six outings welcome 11th place Renhold United Reserves losers of their last six away outings.

In Division Three it’s a return to league action for now title favourites Cranfield United Reserves currently sitting in second spot when they journey to face fifth place Dinamo Flitwick in search of their sixth consecutive league win. Whilst at the Bedford Academy its a must win game for both the hosting sixth place Atletico Europa to repair the damage of two straight home defeats and the visiting current league leaders Lea Sports PSG who will travel in search of their fifth away win on the bounce.

Still in the promotion race are third place Flitwick Town Reserves and for them its home Flitwick Community Centre action where they still hold down a seasons unbeaten home record against the visiting third from bottom of the table Westoning U20 winners of their last two trips away from their Greenfield Road base. Whilst fourth place Clifton losers of their last four away outings head for a meeting on The Green against the hosting seventh place Ickwell & Old Warden Reserves who will be in search of their third home win on the bounce to keep them very much in that said promotion race.

The final game comes just down the road at Bedford Road Recreation Ground, the venue at which 11th place Sandy Reserves also go in search of their first home win of the season against the visiting ninth place White Eagles.
