Young keepers were in safe hands at the launch of a new goalkeeping academy in Chronicle Country.

Ex-Watford and Brentford goalkeeper and GK Icon founder Richard Lee, came to support the opening of the new academy GK Icon Biggleswade on Friday.

Kings Langley goalkeeping coach and GK Icon Biggleswade franchise owner Gareth Davies offered a free training session for budding goalkeepers aged between seven and 18 at Sandy Sports Centre.

Gareth and Richard put the group of 28 through a fun-filled session full of games and technical drills to showcase what the academy has to offer.

The evening ended with a Q&A where Richard was asked a variety of questions by the group of aspiring keepers.

Speaking of the evening, Richard said “Fantastic launch tonight, excellent energy, well organised and lots of fun had by all. Well done to Gareth. The journey now begins.”

GK Icon Biggleswade is part of the national GK Icon brand started by Richard with England goalkeepers Joe Hart and Ben Foster developing session plans on a consultancy basis.
