Guillem Balague: away days galore for Biggleswade United

With 13 away games and just five left to play at home we face a tough end to what has been a long, learning curve of a season.

In fact we spend just about the whole of March on our travels apart from our game against Stotfold but if we continue in our present vein that should not present us with any undue problems.

Even accounting for a slip up at home against Tring Athletic, the Non-League Matters website recent form guide has us in third equal place in the league over the past six games with 13 out of a possible 18 points.

Similar form earlier on in our campaign would almost certainly have meant we would now be looking to battle for the title, but that’s for next season although the hard work that will hopefully lead us to there – both on and off the pitch – starts now.

In the glass half full or half empty debate, I have always come down on the side of exuberant optimism and everything I see at Biggleswade United proves it to me on a daily basis.

I firmly believe, and have always said, that is only a matter of time before we start to establish ourselves more and more into the hearts and minds of the community.

We have the best coaches in the league bar none, as well as sponsorship and collaboration deals that many clubs that ply their trade at a much higher level than us would give their eye teeth for.

There is an enthusiasm and pro-activeness shown by everyone including the players described by our manager, Cristian Colás, as the hardest working group he has ever had the pleasure of coaching and who incidentally, to a man, play not for money but for the sheer love of the game.

Off the pitch we are busily getting ideas in place as to how to go about financing training facilities that will make us the envy of the area.

Students at the North Herts College are also going to be helping us with the refurbishment of our lavatories.

In the meantime we have a few more football matches to play, starting at Holmer Green tomorrow before we visit Tring Athletic on Tuesday who inflicted the only defeat we have suffered in our last 12 games.

Let’s hope we can return the compliment. See you there.
